Our new, bespoke illustration series, Class40 Reimagined, that showcases Class40’s finest designs, returns for its second edition.
This week, we focus on another newcomer to the fleet following our La Boulangère Bio feature a fortnight ago. This time it’s #167 Emile Henry - HappyVore and her striking colour scheme.
Skipper Nicolas d’Estais was working as a Strategy Consultant in Paris up until mid-2021 where a focus on the nautical side of his role allowed him to tap further into his interest in offshore yacht racing. Having participated in numerous regattas as an amateur, Nico’s biggest success came in 2019 when placing 2nd in the Mini Transat. It was this result that provided the opportunity to turn professional.
A fantastic start to Class40 life soon followed in November. The final boat to be launched ahead of the Transat Jacques Vabre, he enjoyed a hugely successful debut - finishing 13th, after just over 22 days on the water. He and co-skipper Erwan Le Draoulec arrived in Martinique just nine hours behind race winner and overall Class40 champion Antoine Carpentier.
d’Estais has a passion for and studied engineering at Cambridge University, so had a clear plan in mind for the vessel he wanted to race. The Clak40 design suited his desire for a well protected, SCOW bow designed boat for long periods of offshore racing.
Nicolas’ success and desire to compete at the top of the fleet allowed him to pick up the plant-based meat company, HappyVore, as one of two principal sponsors - adopting the company’s logos and green branding to create a bright and exciting look for the campaign.
He was then joined for the TJV by co-skipper Le Draoulec, where they agreed on hybrid branding of the boat - with one side each representing the colours and branding of the skippers’ respective partners. This made for a boat design like no other, incorporating two different colour schemes perfectly.
After a great start to its life on the water, Emile Henry - HappyVore is already committed to four races in 2022, and has their eyes firmly set on the Route du Rhum. Expect to see a lot more of Nicolas and Emile Henry - HappyVore in the coming months!
